How Often Should You Get a Massage?

It's one of the most common questions Roxanne is asked at Hidden Leaf Holistic Therapies — and there's no single right answer. How often you should book in really depends on why you're getting massage in the first place, and what your body's telling you.

Here's a practical guide to help you figure out the right rhythm for you.

For general relaxation and stress relief

If you're using massage mainly to unwind, switch off, and look after your general wellbeing, once a month is a great baseline. It's often enough to keep everyday tension from building up and gives you a regular reset without needing to think about it too much.

For ongoing muscular tension or a physically demanding routine

If you carry regular tension — from desk work, physical labour, driving, or simply a busy, stressful lifestyle — every 2 to 3 weeks tends to work better. This more frequent rhythm helps stop tension from settling in and becoming chronic, rather than only addressing it once it's already built up.

For recovering from injury or persistent pain

If you're working through an old injury, chronic tightness, or a specific problem area, weekly or fortnightly sessions over a shorter period can make a real difference — then tapering off to a maintenance schedule once things ease. This is worth discussing directly with Roxanne, as she can tailor a plan around what you're dealing with.

For a single event or occasional treat

Not everyone needs a routine. If you're booking around a big event, after a particularly stressful period, or simply as an occasional treat, that's absolutely fine too — massage doesn't have to be scheduled to be worthwhile.

Listen to your body

Beyond any general guide, your body is usually the best indicator. If tension is returning quickly after a session, it may be worth booking more often for a while. If you're feeling good and relaxed, stretching things out is perfectly reasonable.

With 17 years' experience, Roxanne can help you find a rhythm that actually works for your life and your body — not just a generic recommendation.
